Sr Technician, Communications - Must be Nortel Networks Certified Support Specialist (NNCSS or Avaya equivalent) or possess a CCNA Routing and Switching Certificate or Equivalent vendor certification for one product currently deployed at Westar Energy. Telecom specialist must demonstrate ability to configure, manage and troubleshoot advanced telecom equipment such as radio zone controller, or CWDM or WAN equipment utilizing OSI layers 1 thru 4. Must also meet requirements for Technician, Communications. Technician, Communications - Must have a minimum of 2 years' experience in voice or data communications. Must demonstrate ability and discipline to create and maintain documentation including drawings, configurations and databases. Must be able to type 20 WPM. Telecom specialist must demonstrate ability to configure, manage and troubleshoot radio tower equipment or telecom circuit equipment such as T1 circuits, microwave or MAS radio. Must also meet requirements for Technician III, Communications. Technician III, Communications - Must have A+ or N+ certificate and 1 minimum year experience in voice or data communications. Must be able to create basic network diagrams in Visio. Must have basic understanding of TDM and be able to configure CPE. Telecom specialist must demonstrate ability to configure, manage and troubleshoot radio premise equipment or basic telecom circuit equipment such as TDM, SONET, splicing and termination fiber, 2-way radio systems or PTP/PTM wireless. Must also meet requirements for Technician II, Communications. Must have the knowledge and skills and physical ability to install rack mount equipment, read and interpret basic network diagrams. Must demonstrate PC skills not limited to word processing, spreadsheets, email, terminal emulators and basic programming. Must be able to effectively communicate (oral & written) with internal customers and co-workers and respond to after regular hours call-outs. Must have a 2 year technical certificate from vocational technical school (college degree can substitute). Must also have the knowledge and skills and physical ability to pull and terminate category 5 or higher UTP cable for voice & data applications. Must also be able to pull single mode and multi-mode fiber. Must demonstrate ability to organize and track spare parts inventory on vans and in storage area. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This full-time, onsite position requires at least 32 hours per week. Business operations are Monday through Saturday and Sunday at various locations. Hours of operation and days of work may vary by location, business needs, and work schedules. This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work. Travel This position requires up to 25% travel between local stores. Overnight travel requirements are less than 5% unless on a particular assignment.
