Farmington — Tunxis Community College opened its doors in 1970 to 494 students in what was an old shopping plaza.
Lodovico, a Bristol native, was actually a Tunxis student in 1971.
Kenneth Muccino graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1973 with a BS degree in electrical engineering and began working as an engineer at Northeast Utilities.
It is accredited by New England Association of Schools and Colleges. It first offered distance learning courses in 1996.
In 2000, she began teaching technology and management courses part-time at various colleges.
Jon Sahlin was born and raised in nearby Bristol, CT, Jon started his educational path right here at Tunxis, graduating in 2001, before moving on to CCSU and subsequently to University of Hartford.
He is a former manager with Eastern Mountain Sports and currently serves as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 25 in Manchester, CT. He hiked the entire 2,160-mile Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine and on May 20, 2016, he summited 29,029 ft.
Now, as the school prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2020, its chief executive officer, Darryl Reome, and director of facilities, John Lodovico, reflect on the school’s half a century presence in Farmington.
