JOB OBJECTIVE:
The middle market underwriter reviews risks, determines acceptability, and successfully writes profitable business accounts. Within designated authority, reviews insurance applications to evaluate, classify and rate each risk to determine acceptability, coverage and pricing. Responsible for the financial performance of the assigned book of business and is expected to achieve profitable retention and new business growth. Focused on taking action to achieve results that positively impact sales and profitability while ensuring excellent customer service and timely responsiveness to independent agents for their commercial lines accounts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Determine the acceptability, quality, pricing, profitability and opportunity for new and existing business.
2. Complete thorough risk analysis on designated accounts using appropriate Encova, NCCI, ISO and industry rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines, etc.
3. Identify, create and initiate new business opportunities within current book of business and assigned agencies.
4. Gather and analyze information necessary to make an accurate evaluation of risk.
5. Accept or reject commercial lines accounts that fall outside of straight through processing rules through exposure identification and risk analysis, including:
* understanding all exposures that might cause a policy to incur losses;
* conservatively assessing the likelihood of any exposure actually causing a loss and the probable cost if it does;
* setting a premium that, on average, would deliver a profit after both prospective loss costs and operating expenses are covered;
* be willing to walk away if the appropriate premium cannot be obtained.
6. Apply discretionary pricing appropriately based on risk exposures, risk quality, loss potential, pricing model indications and your letter of authority.
7. Determine acceptability of revision requests that fall outside straight through processing rules and communicate how the revision will be handled to the Associate Underwriter.
8. Communicate all underwriting decisions or changes on coverage, limits, exposures and/or pricing, discussing alternatives with assigned agents as needed.
9. Promote effective agency relationships and encourage continued use of our company products and technology.
10. Provide support to appointed agents by serving as a resource for underwriting questions.
11. Utilizes Encova systems to transact requests and endorsements.
12. Utilize available resources including company underwriting guidelines, business unit strategies, and consultations with others to ensure adequate understanding of risk exposures.
13. Prepare proposals to producers, including negotiation of terms and conditions.
14. Ensure the proper issuance of policies, certificates, filings and notifications.
15. Seek the guidance of management on risks exceeding assigned authority levels.
16. Effectively utilize industry rules and guidance to ensure proper policy construction.
17. Identify underwriting issues; recommend and develop plans for problem resolution and implement them where appropriate.
18. Manage existing and prospective accounts by actively participating in account renewals, new business presentations as needed and discussion with agents.
19. Participate in monitoring and analyzing growth and profitability of assigned agents; initiate actions and understand downstream impact of alternatives.
20. Mentor entry-level underwriters and trainees to achieve profitable retention, growth and customer service standards.
21. Serve as a resource for other team members and units.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintain an awareness of the current objectives and initiatives of Encova Insurance.
2. Maintain an understanding of all products offered by Encova Insurance and be able to guide agents to the appropriate contact for needs outside of commercial lines.
3. Travel to various locations to support business objectives when necessary.
4. Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
* Minimum 2 years of commercial lines underwriting experience in package lines and/or worker's compensation in the Property and Casualty insurance market strongly preferred.
* Bachelor's degree preferred, demonstrated significant underwriting experience may substitute.
* Interpersonal skills are required including the ability to demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, accountability, collaboration and problem solving.
* Insurance designations or insurance education course work (i.e. AINS-Associate in General Insurance) strongly preferred.

**About the role**
Trustmark is looking for a Case Underwriter to join the organization.
Responsible for providing timely and accurate underwriting offers, while adhering to pricing and profit objectives. Develops partnership with Sales to maximize ability to sell new/maintain existing business. Stays current with our Administrative, Enrollment, Broker, and Enrollment Company capabilities and processes.
**Key Accountabilities**
+ Processes, reviews, analyzes and makes informed underwriting decisions for assigned territory. All cases are reviewed with manager or higher level underwriter until proficiency is achieved. At full proficiency, underwriting authority is a maximum of 5,000 life case or $500,000 of annualized premium.
+ Reviews enrollment and participation trends in assigned territory and makes recommendations to optimize opportunity for sales while minimizing risk.
+ Provides monthly updates on sold case successes and failures as it relates to access and participation for Guarantee Issue cases.
+ Continually asks questions to grow and better understand our products and procedures. Develops and grows relationship with Implementation Managers to gain their confidence in decisions.
+ Understands non-standard broker arrangements and enrollment company strengths and weaknesses.
+ Identifies elements of a successful enrollment and makes recommendations that will create value.
+ Works with reinsurer on cases that require facultative review.
**Minimum Requirements**
+ Bachelor's Degree and/or 2 - 4 years of related experience OR High School Diploma or GED with 4-6 years of related experience.
The compensation range for this role is (based on the corporate location in Lake Forest, Illinois):
$61,412.00 - $88,706.00 per year
The final salary offer will be determined based on factors such as location, qualifications, experience, skill set, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for bonus. What you will do
* Reviews the loan package received to ensure completeness verifying that all supporting documents are included to make a credit decision per established policies
* Identifies issues and recommends appropriate resolution within policy service level agreements
* Analyzes and determines the financial capacity of the borrower's ability to repay:
* Performs credit analysis, financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, liquidity qualification and payment calculation spreads
* Reviews for stability of residency and employment
* Verifies income per established policy
* Identifies any exceptions to current policies
* Documents a reasonable conclusion mitigating any identified risks supporting the request will be repaid
* Accurately sets and clears conditions
* Interacts with RLC and Processor throughout the life cycle of the loan, providing information, updates and assistance as required

* Renders a decision within his/her lending authority. If deal is outside of lending authority, provides a recommended decision and submits for appropriate level signing authority

Perform site inspections of underwritten assets.
Manage third party vendors and evaluate third party reports including appraisal reports, engineering reports, environmental reports, zoning reports, flood certifications, preliminary title, etc.
Coordinate and manage communication with internal Merchants staff including the Review Underwriter, originations and closings team; Agency; third party vendors, including but not limited to, the appraiser, engineer and environmental consultant; Merchants legal counsel; insurance consultant; borrower and any others that are pertinent to the success of the transaction.
Evaluate Borrower financial statements, bank statements, credit reports, legal searches, real estate owned (REO) schedules, resumes, etc., and determine any potential credit risks.
Together with other members of the team, generate a Due Diligence checklist along with monitoring receipt of and processing due diligence as it is received. Review files for completeness and identify critical missing information.
Analyze historical operating statements, rent rolls, market characteristics, etc., and complete the underwriting loan submission template.
Alert appropriate persons to potential deal issues as soon as they arise.
Prepare the loan package for evaluation and approval by Merchants Credit Committee and Agency Lenders.
Collaborate closely with the Underwriting Team Lead, origination, and closing teams to align on underwriting approach, open issues, and next steps throughout the transaction lifecycle.
Maintain clear, accurate, and up-to-date documentation of underwriting analysis, assumptions, and deal status to ensure transparency, continuity, and alignment across a distributed team environment.
Follow established review and escalation protocols, including aligning with the Underwriting Team Lead before advancing workstreams or communicating material credit positions.
Communicate underwriting conclusions, deal status, and approvals clearly and consistently with internal teams and external partners.

Underwrite Loans

SCOPE OF WORK:
Performs skilled duties related to the installation and maintenance of all voltages of electrical power line systems and equipment in addition to electrical substation construction and maintenance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the construction/maintenance of distribution and transmission of electrical power. Demonstrates safe work habits and proper care for tools and equipment.
WHAT YOU OFFER

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $165,100 per year plus bonus. Final compensation will be determined by location, skills, experience, qualifications and the career level at which the position is filled.
We are growing and have opportunities for Commercial Underwriters/Credit Analysts/Portfolio Managers for C&I. This role has the primary responsibility of underwriting lending opportunities, balancing risk and growth ensuring loan structures are appropriate and consistent with bank lending standards. You will assign an appropriate asset quality rating, in a fast-paced, high volume environment completing a detailed financial analysis to obtain a deeper understanding of an application's credit risk. You will collaborate with Relationship Managers, and internal support staff to provide credit expertise to underwrite and monitor the portfolio.
We are an in-office working enviornment with the following locations for you to work with team members; Evansville IN, 8750 W. Bryn Mawr Chicago (near Rosemont and the Cumberland Blue line station), 180 N. LaSalle Chicago, Hickory Hills IL, McHenry IL, Gurnee IL, Sycamore IL, Milwaukee on Capital Drive and 76th, Madison Capital Square, Troy MI, Nashville Gulch TN, and Indianapolis 900 E. 96th at Parkwood.
Key Accountabilities
Underwrite Loans
* Underwrite credit requests focusing on appropriate due diligence, risk assessment and asset quality ratings (AQR)
* Meet quality standards as outlined in ONB underwriting guidelines and policy; evaluation by Loan Review, OCC, and/or others may identify unacceptable underwriting or inaccurate asset quality ratings (AQR)
* Meet or exceed productivity expectations for annual credit approval memorandum (CAM) volume
* Produce a high quality and accurate analysis while also not sacrificing efficiency in a fast-paced, high volume environment juggling multiple requests while adhering to client driven response timelines, etc.
Partner with respective Relationship Managers as well as Treasury Management Partners
* Provide credit expertise using a consultative approach; assist in structuring loans applying proficient knowledge, understanding, and application of ONB guidelines/standards/policies, risk assessment and analysis; effectively communicate risks, questions, and options to RM seeking win-win solutions.
* Deliver exceptional internal customer service and adopt new processes and new tools, as available.
* Develop and enhance knowledge of assigned segmentation and portfolio by leveraging internal and external resources and expertise
* Partner well with associates on revenue generating sales team, support teams and others in Credit to ensure a collaborative, team, and empowered environment
Monitor Portfolio
* Accurately assign asset quality ratings (AQR)
* Work with assigned Relationship Managers to monitor the credit portfolio to maintain strong asset quality; review trend analysis reports, address default situations, delinquencies, review maturing notes, receipt of financial information, review covenant default and Borrowing Base Certificate (BBC) reports and other reports as appropriate.
* Prepare credit data in Special Assets Assessment and Action Summary (SAAAS) and Upgrade Hurdles, as necessary, working with assigned Relationship Managers
* Commercial Underwriters may monitor overlines and Treasury Management/ACH risk reports or other trends, as appropriate

Qualifications and Education Requirements
* Demonstrate at least 3-7 years progressive experience within Commercial Credit for C&I is required with each incremental level of responsibility.
* Demonstrated ability to independently (with limited oversight), understand, analyze and interpret financial statements
* Understands and takes appropriate action related to risks associated with lending to various types of industries.
* Basic knowledge of loan structuring, borrowing causes and lending regulations; ability to comply and conform to ONB lending policies, guidelines and standards
* Must be able to make sound independent decisions and communicate those decisions clearly and effectively to the internal/external client quickly given the high volume, fast-paced environment
* Must be able to actively listen, quickly identify issues as well as opportunities when they arise, and problem solve in real-time to move the work accordingly
* Must feel comfortable working in a collaborative team environment along with being an independent thinker.
* Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or equivalent experience
