1866 The first public school in Webster opens, serving the African-American community

Three teachers were chosen and classes began on October 11, 1869 in rooms rented from the Congregational Church.

Webster Groves High School began as a general course offered to ninth graders in 1889.At the turn of the century, the high school occupied the first floor of the original Bristol School building; the elementary school occupied the second floor.

Grant's Cabin, bought in 1891 for $5K by Edward and Justin Joy to promote their real estate development.

1901: William A. Straub opened the first Straub's store in the Bristol Building in the community of Webster Groves.
