Western Technology Center company history timeline

1970

January 27, 1970, was the beginning of Western Technology Center when several school districts unanimously voted to become a part of the area district and the election of board members was held for Zones 1 through 5.

1987

In 1987, the new 350-seat seminar center and cafeteria were completed at the Burns Flat campus.

1991

In May of 1991, WTC purchased property in Weatherford along I-40 located on Historic Route 66.

1992

Renovations to an existing building were soon completed and classes began in 1992.

1995

August of 1995 construction was completed at the Sayre campus and both full-time and part-time classes began.

2003

In 2003, WTC opened a fourth campus in Hobart, The Kiowa County Adult Education Center.

2005

The next year WTC began renovating the east wing of the Weatherford campus to house a partnership program with the University of Oklahoma's School of Dental Hygiene, which opened in 2005.

2007

In 2007, Western signed the American College and University President's Climate Commitment to sharply reduce and eventually eliminate all of the college's global warming emissions.

2014

October 2014, WTC opened its 5th campus location in Elk City, OK. It will provide training to students and companies in the western corridor of Oklahoma.

Western joined ATD in 2014 and assembled a core team to begin the planning process and set our priorities.

2016

In January 2016, Western renewed the original Climate Commitment and expanded it to include efforts on environmental resiliency.

2019

In early 2019, Western Technical College worked with Emsi, a labor market analytics firm, on an economic impact study.

2020

The plan was developed with input from Western staff, students, and local employers. It builds upon the previous plan, Vision 2020, which included a $79.8 million referendum to create facilities that represent current and future work environments.
