THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is housed on the Hayward campus and is part of the newly established College of Health . The Department has a three-pronged mission of teaching, research, and service in speech-language pathology and audiology. The Department currently has approximately 120 undergraduate and 100 graduate students, five tenured/tenure-track faculty, two full-time and one half-time speech-language pathologist clinical staff, as well as lecturers and part-time clinical supervisors. Faculty are actively engaged in research and scholarly activities with students, leading innovating projects in the Augmentative and Alternative Communication Lab, the Neurocognitive Research on the Rehabilitation of Language (NRRL) Lab , the Bilingual Stuttering and Linguistic Processing (BSLP) Lab, and the Multilingualism Lab .
The Norma S. and Ray R. Rees Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic includes eleven observable individual and group therapy rooms, one large group room, an aphasia treatment program (ATP), a fully equipped Speech Science Lab, a conference room, and an EEG test suite. The Department is accredited by ASHA's Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in speech-language pathology and is authorized to grant the Speech Language Hearing Services Credential approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). A Bilingual Speech-Language Pathology Certificate program is slated to begin Fall 2027.
DUTIES OF THE POSITION: Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or Online campus. The policy and expectation of the California State University is that tenure-track faculty members will perform their duties within the state of California. Area of specialization is open but should complement the expertise of current faculty. Preferred candidates will be able to teach one or more academic courses from among the following content areas: linguistic and cultural diversity, speech science, voice, motor speech disorders, dysphagia, cognitive-communicative disorders, child language disorders and literacy. In addition to teaching, all faculty have advising responsibilities, assist the department with administrative and/or committee work, and are expected to assume campus-wide committee responsibilities.
RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor. Anticipated salary range is $80,928 to $85,080/year. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary authorization.

Position Details:
The Curriculum and Instruction Department in the College of Education at Cal State LA, is seeking applications for a pool of part-time faculty lecturers with positions available as determined by need during the 2025-2026 academic year. Positions will be filled as needed for each academic semester.
Part-time faculty lecturers are hired with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the pool of applicants are made when there are instructional needs to fill coursework offered by an academic department based on changing enrollment patterns, changes to tenure-track faculty assignments, and other factors that cannot be addressed with existing faculty. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, but occasionally academic year initial appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance. Often appointments are made just prior to the start of the semester so some faculty lecturers may need to be available on very short notice.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidate must have an appropriate degree from an accredited university (master's or doctoral degree), hold a California teaching credential or equivalent, and have several years of experience teaching in K-12 urban school settings. Lecturers hired to regularly teach credential courses must be qualified in the credential area through either training, credential/license, or experience teaching in the public schools. Faculty assigned to regularly teach credential courses must maintain, at minimum, participation in public schools once every three years.
Applicants should have the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment. Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and training.
Previous experience teaching at the university level.
Experience teaching in online, hybrid, and face-to face classes and familiarity with online class management systems.
Duties:
Duties of part-time faculty lecturers include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.
Lecturers will teach courses in their area of expertise. Most of the courses are taught in the late afternoon and evening, with some programs offering courses during the day as well. Candidates will also collaborate with faculty to maintain consistency throughout the program.

About the Position
AdjunctProfessors in the B.A. Community Psychology program teach online courses that integrate psychological theory with social justice, community engagement, and cultural responsiveness. Faculty inspires students to analyze systems, advocate for change, and apply community-based practices that improve well-being at individual, organizational, and societal levels.
Responsibilities
Teach and facilitate interactive, high-quality online courses within the B.A. in Community Psychology program using the Canvas learning management system.
Maintain an active and supportive presence in the online classroom, including responding to student inquiries within 24-48 hours.
Provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments and submit grades in accordance with established deadlines.
Engage students through meaningful dialogue, reflective practices, and collaborative learning approaches that support academic success.
Identify students who may be at risk academically and refer them to appropriate institutional support services.
Collaborate with faculty colleagues to review, refine, and enhance course content in alignment with program goals and academic standards.
Complete required faculty onboarding, adjunct training modules, and participate in scheduled adjunct and all-faculty meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Community Psychology, Psychology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
At least three (3) years of professional experience in a relevant setting.
Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses in an online format using a Learning Management System (e.g., Canvas).
Strong communication skills and commitment to cultural responsiveness.
Experience working with diverse student populations.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate degree (Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D.) in Community Psychology, Psychology, or a related discipline.
Prior college-level teaching experience, particularly in online or hybrid environments.
Familiarity with Pacific Oaks pedagogy and integration of social responsibility in business education.
Proficiency in Canvas LMS, Microsoft Office Suite, and online teaching tools.
Evidence of professional development or scholarly engagement in business and management trends.

The Fall term begins in the late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term runs from the middle of January through the end of May. On rare occasions part-time faculty are needed during one of the Summer Session segments.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
Regular performance evaluations of part-time lecturers are made by the department in accord with the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070. These performance evaluations determine which lecturers will be retained for future and continued teaching assignments. And in some instances, syllabi, assignments and reading material will be reviewed by the departmental personnel committee.
APPOINTMENT AND SALARY
All part-time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers, under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the California Faculty Association. Initial appointments are for one semester only.
Classification Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per month
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $6,221 per month
The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester. For a three-unit assignment, typical starting compensation ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester.
