Can a company force you to work overtime?
Yes, a company can force you to work overtime. Federal laws allow employers to force you to work overtime. There is currently no minimum or maximum hours an employer is required to request from an employee concerning overtime.
However, if a company requests for you to work overtime, they are required by law to pay you overtime wages. Generally, this equates to 1.5 times the normal rate of pay, otherwise known as time and a half pay.
In general, companies also have the right to terminate you if you refuse to work overtime hours. Companies are also able to make you work overtime hours without giving any notice.
