Can my employer force me to take a lunch break?

By Zippia Team - Dec. 9, 2022

Yes, an employer can force an employee to take a lunch break. An employer can not force an employee to eat during their lunch break. However, an employer can mandate that you take a break from work during a lunch break.

Legally speaking, employees have the right to a 15-minute break after working more than four and a half hours and a 30-minute break after working more than six hours.

However, employees may elect not to take a break in either scenario, many employers are fine with this, but some may require you to take a lunch break if they think you need a short rest from work.
