How do you describe a design internship on a resume?

The profile summary is the first place on the resume to discuss internship experience. The profile summary is a concise, one-to-three-sentence statement that touches on who you are as a candidate and what you bring to the table.

If you are just starting in your career, mentioning an internship in the profile summary is a great way to show the hiring manager that you have some industry experience.

For example, "Creative and passionate student currently enrolled at the University XYZ. A team player with exceptional leadership qualities, trained in infusing brand goals with design aesthetics to produce compelling designs." Be sure to also include the position title and the name of the company you're applying to.

Design internships count as work experience on your resume, especially if you're applying for entry-level jobs following graduation. In this case, you would list your internship experience as you would a regular job.

This means including the company name, dates of the internship, and 3 to 6 bullets covering your experience and achievements. For example, "Designed print materials such as flyers and ads that are used for the annual convention that hosts 11,000 attendees."

If you're a more seasoned designer, you can include your internship experience in the education section of the resume. Be sure to also include any skills you may have learned from that experience.
