By Zippia Team - Oct. 26, 2022

A minor in North Carolina can work no more than 3 hours per day when school is in session and no more than 8 hours per day when school is not in session.

Minors who are between the ages of 14 and 15 are only allowed to work between the hours of 7am and 7pm (9pm from June 1st through Labor Day when school is not in session).

They also can work only a maximum of 18 hours per week when school is in session or 40 hours per week when school is not in session.

14 and 15-year-old minors in North Carolina also must only work outside of school hours on weekdays when school is in session.

A 30-minute break is required for any minor working for 5 consecutive hours. Minors at the age of 16 or 17, who are enrolled in school, can not be employed between 11pm and 5am when the minor has school the next day. There are exceptions to this law when an employer gets written consent from the minor's parents and school principal.
