How many hours can a minor work in Ohio?

A minor under the age of 16 in Ohio can work 8 hours per day for no more than 40 hours a week when school is not in session. When school is in session, a minor under the age of 16 can work no more than 3 hours per day and for a maximum of 18 hours a week.

Ohio does not have minimum and maximum hours of work for minors at the age of 16 or above.

Minors under the age of 16 in Ohio are prohibited from working during these hours: 7 pm (9 pm June 1 to Sept. 1 and during school holidays of 5 school days or more) to 7 am, 7 pm to 7 am.

Minors between the ages of 16 and 17 are prohibited from working during these hours: 11 pm before the school day to 7 am on a school day (6 am if not employed after 8 pm the previous night), if required to attend school from 8 pm to 7 am.

In addition, minors under the age of 16 must also obtain employment certificates to work legally.
