How many hours can a minor work in Tennessee?

Minors under 16 years of age can work up to 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week when school is not in session. For minors aged 16 or 17 years, there are no restrictions on the maximum working hours.

Minors under the age of 16 are prohibited from working outside of the hours of 7:00 am and 7:00 pm. Minors 16 or 17 years of age are prohibited from working between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am Sunday through Thursday before school days. With parental permission, they may be allowed to work up to midnight 3 days per week.
