How many hours does a welder work?

On average, welders work a typical 40-hour work week. Many manufacturing firms, where most welders are employed, have two or three 8 and 12-hour shifts so work can be completed around the clock. Depending on the length of their shifts, they may work anywhere from 3 to 5 days weekly.

Most welders have the possibility of working overtime and adding in extra shift work. This can occur due to an important deadline or staff shortages. If they do work over forty hours in one week, they are paid accordingly as they often work hourly shift work.
