How much does a normal RN make?

A normal RN makes an average of $75,000 a year. This amount depends on a variety of factors such as education level, specialty, and experience.

No matter the specialty, location, or education level, registered nurses start their careers with a lower-paying salary than a more experienced registered nurse. Typically the average hourly wage for new nurses is about $28.

However, as a nurse gains real-world experience, they will also move up in pay accordingly. Hourly wage increases through years of experience for all nurses. For example, the average salary for a nurse with more than 20 years on the job is over $41 an hour.

Specialties also come into play in determining an average resident nurse's salary. The Operating Room nurse is the highest paying specialty, where nurses earned, on average, over $51 per hour. The following two highest-paying were endoscopy at $43.67 hourly and Intensive Care Unit nurses at $43.15 hourly.
