This question is about employer.
To get a religious exemption in your workplace, you should request an exemption verbally or in writing to your direct superior. While both written or verbal approval work, depending on the exemption, it may be a good idea to have it in writing, so you have evidence of the exemption for future disputes.
Your employer may request follow-up information, such as the date of a religious holiday you hope to observe. You should keep all of this as records for future requests. Under Title 7 of The Civil Rights Act of 1964, employers cannot discriminate based on religion.
If you have a specific request that is reasonably accommodated, you should receive an exemption.
