An LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) is a professional that looks at mental health problems as a functional problems to be solved for each patient, while a therapist approaches a patient's problems in the context of social and relational issues.

An LPC is a specially trained mental health worker who evaluates, provides information, and guides clients in problem-solving and decision-making. Another primary objective of theirs is to facilitate changes in a patient's attitude and behavior. LPCs often focus on the life challenges of their patients. They also tend to work with patients on a short-term basis.

A therapist is a specially trained mental health professional who is educated in psychotherapy techniques and treats mental health conditions such as major depressive disorder, anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder.
