What are the pros and cons of being a paralegal?

Pros:

• High demand. Paralegals are in higher demand now than ever before. There is a consistent projected growth through 2030. Paralegals with strong backgrounds and skills can find great positions.

• Growth opportunities. There are many different environments for paralegals. You can work for a small law firm, or work for many different corporations or organizations. You also can take your previously acquired skills to excel in law school and become a lawyer.

• Make a difference. Paralegals statistically rate their job as being higher than average in fulfillment. A large part of this is the rewarding factor. You are able to help people find justice, and that can be extremely rewarding.

Cons

• Stress. Paralegals often work under fast deadlines. They have many tasks they must complete and that can be extremely stressful for them. If you do not do well in a fast-paced, stressful environment, then becoming a paralegal may not be for you.

• Constant learning. Paralegals constantly are learning new things and expanding upon their previously learned skills. This can be exciting, but it also requires you to be willing to learn and put in the hard work required to do so.
