What degree do you need to be a design consultant?

You need a bachelor's degree in graphic design, interior design, or a related field of study to be a design consultant.

Some design consultants have secured employment by having an extensive portfolio, a list of licenses and certifications, and glowing recommendations from either mentors or beginning clients. However, many design consultants are expected to have at least a four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited school.

While some employers may allow you to complete only an associate's degree or substitute relevant experience with a proven track record and portfolio instead of obtaining classic education, this is at the employer's discretion.
