What degree do you need to be a licensed therapist?
You need at least a master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or another related field, to become a licensed therapist. The degree required depends on the state in which you want to practice as a licensed therapist. Becoming a licensed therapist requires a considerable amount of education and training.
In addition to whichever degree you decide to pursue, you must also complete supervised clinical experience hours.
