This question is about what a sonographer does.

What degree do you need to be a sonographer?

By Zippia Team - Sep. 7, 2022

You need at least an associate's degree to be a sonographer. The Associate of Applied Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography prepares students for a career in ultrasound and as a diagnostic medical sonographer. While you can become a sonographer with an associate's degree, some employers require a bachelor's degree.

You can become certified by completing a two or four-year program. Advanced education might be useful to allied health professionals who are interested in entering administration, education, or research. Regardless of the years of education, students are required to complete some type of clinical hours in their program.

These clinical hours are used to test out newfound skills and knowledge in an actual healthcare setting, often under the supervision of an experienced professional. After obtaining your education, aspiring sonographers are advised to seek out accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
