This question is about truck driver education.
Truck drivers do not need to hold a college degree. While some specific training is required, most truck drivers do not have any post-high school education.
Most employers require truck drivers to have a high school diploma or equivalent. Nearly half of those in the profession have graduated from high school, with approximately 16% having some college experience.
Long haul drivers who exceed certain weight and axle limits or are carrying 16 or more people are required in most states to have a commercial driver's license. A CDL is obtained by taking both a written and driving test.
With a CDL, drivers then learn those driving skills necessary for the specific type of vehicle and cargo they will be hauling while on the job.
