What degree do you need to be an addiction counselor?
You need a bachelor's degree to be an addiction counselor. Although there is no specific major requirement, a degree in communications or psychology will greatly aid you in your career, especially if you choose to pursue higher education.
Along with a bachelor's degree, most states require addiction counselors to hold a master's degree. To increase your chances of being admitted to a master's program, you should try to volunteer at a substance abuse counseling center during your undergraduate studies.
