What do pilots do on a daily basis?
On a daily basis, pilots perform pre-flight inspections, operate the aircraft, communicate with air traffic control, and complete post-flight duties.
Pilots often begin their day by reviewing the weather conditions at all relevant locations, including their destination, alternate airports, and en route. They then perform pre-flight inspections of the aircraft. This involves checking the aircraft's mechanical condition, fuel quantity, loading of baggage and cargo, and the balance and distribution of the load. Once satisfied everything is in order, they confirm the flight plan with air traffic control.
During the flight, pilots are responsible for operating the controls to navigate the aircraft along planned routes. They maintain regular communication with air traffic controllers and monitor the aircraft's systems and performance. Pilots also respond to any unforeseen circumstances such as adverse weather or system malfunctions.
After landing, pilots complete post-flight checks, report any technical issues to ground staff, and document any irregular events that occurred during the flight. Some pilots also have administrative tasks or ongoing training to complete.
