What does an entry-level data analyst do?
An entry-level data analyst collects and organizes data from a variety of sources, cleans and processes data in preparation for analysis, and analyzes data using statistical software and methods. The exact duties of an entry-level data analyst can vary depending on the company they are employed by.
Most entry-level data analysts report directly to a senior-level data analyst, a data scientist, or manager within the business intelligence or data analysis department of the company they work for. These higher-level professionals have more experience, and often provide direction and guidance to their lower-level counterparts.
Most entry-level data analysts have their work reviewed by higher-level data professionals and receive task assignments from these sources as well. In addition to some of the common duties listed above, entry-level data analysts might also:
- Create charts, graphs, and other visual aids to communicate data insights to high-level data analysts and data scientists
- Develop reports for approval from higher-ups, that are then used to inform stakeholders of the business, company, or organization
- Assist with the development, design, and implementation of data collection systems
- Oversee the quality and accuracy of all key data an organization comes into contact with
