After Air Force basic training is completed new Airmen must then report to technical school for more job-specific training. Air Force tech school takes anywhere from six to 72 weeks to complete. This depends on the speciality of the specific Airman that is attending Air Force tech school.
Tech school for Airmen is very similar to a college experience. Those attending Air force tech school normally live in dorms and attend classes on a daily basis. In most cases, Airmen have the weekends off to rest and study their course materials.
After Air Force Tech school Airmen are given the opportunity to take a period of leave before they move into their first permanent duty station. Leave consists of ten paid days off, some can choose to extend their leave by participating in the Air Force's Recruiter Assistance Program in their hometown or another location.
Most Airmen have these options after AirForce tech school:
Go straight to active duty at their first permanent duty station
Participate in the Air Force's Recruiter Assistance Program
Take any amount of leave accrued from Air force basic training and/or Air Force tech school
