What is absenteeism?

Absenteeism is the process of regularly staying away from work or school without a good reason. It is a habitual pattern of absence from duty or obligation, and is done without any sort of reasonable excuse. It is often unplanned, as opposed to something like a sabbatical, which is an agreed-upon absence.

Absenteeism is also a good indicator of poor individual performance, and it can also be a breach of contract between employer and employee. This can be a reason for the termination of a position, as someone is not completing the duties they committed to doing.
