What is ACID compliance?

• Atomicity

Atomicity points to how any given set of database operations and functions must all be completed in successful operation or all fail together. In other words, every data operation must be successful or every data operation must fail, there can not be variance in terms of some succeeding and some failing.

• Consistency

Consistency refers to making sure that all information in a database is meaningful and useful. Consistency ensures that if any violation of data integrity occurs, the entire transaction will be canceled.

• Isolation

Isolation refers to the necessity of separating the information of multiple transactions that are in process at the same time. This keeps details from certain transactions from leaking or mixing with other transactions that are unrelated.

• Durability

Durability refers to the requirement of ensuring that every successful transaction's data operations are finite and can not be lost or erased. This applies even in the event of a total system shutdown. This is often achieved by writing developments that are to be made to a series of log files before the data operations are joined with the database files.
