What is considered full-time in Florida?
The United States Department of Labor does not define full-time employment, so for Florida, it is up to either the IRS and the Affordable Care Act, or in some cases, employers to define it. The IRS and the Affordable Care Act define anyone working 30 hours or more a week or 130 hours or more a month as a full-time employee.
However, this only applies to companies that are classified as Applicable Large Employers (ALE) by the IRS. If you work for a small company with less than 40 employees, you may not be under ALE and may have different standards.
Even with the various discrepancies between companies, the average worker in Florida works either five shifts of eight hours per week or four ten hour shifts, both of which total forty working hours a week. This makes sense with what the IRS and the Affordable Care Act have outlined.
