What is considered full-time in Michigan?
The United States Department of Labor does not define full-time employment, so for Michigan, it is up to either the IRS and the Affordable Care Act or, in some cases, employers. The IRS and the Affordable Care Act define anyone working 30 hours or more weekly or 130 hours or more a month as a full-time employee.
However, this only applies to companies classified as Applicable Large Employers (ALE) by the IRS. If you work for a small company with less than 40 employees, you may not be under ALE and may have different standards.
Even with the various discrepancies between companies, the average full-time worker in Michigan works 36.1 hours per week. This shows that the "standard" 40-hour work week is fairly represented in Michigan's working week averages.
