What is discrimination in the workplace?

By Zippia Team - Feb. 1, 2023

Work discrimination is a form of illegal discrimination in the workplace based on legally protected characteristics. In the United States, there are federal anti-discrimination laws that prohibit discrimination by employers against employees based on age, race, sex, gender, religion, national origin, and physical or mental disability.

It is illegal for a company to discriminate based on these factors. If someone feels that they are being unfairly treated based on one of these reasons, they can choose to take legal action against their employers. To successfully do this, they should be sure to have solid evidence that demonstrates the discrimination.
