What is G-force training?

By Zippia Team - Feb. 1, 2023

G-force training is a form of preparation employed to train aviators and astronauts in dealing with high levels of acceleration or G's. The main objective of G-force training is the prevention of the loss of consciousness by trainees. High levels of G-force can have many different adverse effects on trainees, including loss of consciousness and vomiting.

The loss of consciousness occurs when high levels of G-force cause blood to move away from the brain rapidly, leading many trainees to pass out. Aviators and astronauts must go through this training because planes, rockets, and spaceships often produce high G-force levels due to the speed these vehicles can achieve.

G-force training is done in a centrifuge where trainees are locked into a seat and spun around a controlled environment until the G-forces (also referred to as artificial G's in this setting) become extreme. Those who have completed this training claim it is a painful process, one in which your body feels like it is being smothered by force.
