What is HITRUST certification?
Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST) certification is a healthcare industry certification created to maintain the Common Security Framework (CSF). This framework seeks to bring together and unify the following compliance frameworks:
HIPAA
ISO 27001/27002
NIST 800-53
GDPR
PCI DSS
Healthcare companies utilize the HITRUST certification to manage regulatory risks within that industry. While HITRUST was initially created for healthcare companies, it is a certification that organizations in several industries use now.
Education and travel companies are examples of non-healthcare organizations using the HITRUST certification. Many different kinds of companies use HITRUST for one, several, or all of the following purposes:
Streamlining the selection of information security and privacy controls
Advancing the implementation and assessment of information security and privacy controls
Increasing the efficiency of the reporting of information security and privacy controls
HITRUST certification is valid for two years, after which companies who wish to still hold the certification must recertify.
