What is it like being a document review attorney?
Being a document review attorney can be a very tedious but rewarding career. Not to mention that many document reviewer attorneys make good money and are in high demand.
A document review attorney typically works with other attorneys who will try the case in court. This can be a great job for someone in transition between studying for the bar and waiting for results. The pay ranges between $19 to $40 an hour.
The hours are also flexible. The average number of hours worked per week is 40 hours. However, they can typically set their own pace and work, for example, four to ten hours per day instead of five to eight hours per day. This flexibility allows document review attorneys the ability to work other jobs.
Document review, however, can be uncertain because you are not told the exact end date of a project. It could end earlier or later than the projected date. So, if there is a shortage of documents, you could be sent home early or given days off until documents become available.
This means that some weeks you might work a full 40 hours, but other weeks you may only work ten or 15 hours. Finally, this is also considered a temporary position. The longer someone works as a document reviewer attorney, the harder it might be for them to land a better position at a law firm.
