What is REACH compliance?
REACH compliance, or Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals compliance, refers to adhering to regulations that were designed to protect and improve the environment, as well as human health. REACH seeks to inform on the risks in relation to chemicals and offers alternative strategies for hazardous substances.
REACH compliance is mandatory for companies operating in the European Union (EU) that produce, manufacture, and/or sell products or parts that contain chemical substances. Companies that meet this criteria and manufacture, import, or distribute more than one metric ton of chemical substances per year must apply for authorization.
REACH also has a restricted list of chemicals that companies in REACH compliance can not under any circumstances use. When companies are REACH compliant they receive a certificate stating that the product or substance they use or sell complies with specific REACH regulations and standards. REACH restricts the use of 224 chemical substances.
