What is the hiring process at Discord?

The hiring process at Discord typically includes several steps, including the resume review, recruiter screening, hiring manager screen, skills test, and a full-day interview.

Resume Review

After a candidate submits an application for an open role, it is reviewed by the Discord recruiting team, which selects a few candidates for an initial phone screening.

Recruiter Screen

One of Discord's recruiters will reach out and set up a talk to get to know the candidate and ask a few standard questions regarding eligibility to work in the US, compensation needs, and so on.

Hiring Manager Screen

If everything goes well with the recruiter screen, the candidate will move forward to the hiring manager screen. This is the first conversation with the manager who is hiring for the role. The interview will go through a set of questions about the candidate's background and what they are looking for at Discord to make sure they are a good fit.

Skills Test

The next step is a skills test. This is a one-hour session with one of Discord's engineers consisting of a coding interview.

Full-Day Interview

This is the final and longest step in the interview process. The full-day interview includes a full panel of interview sessions that run about 5-6 hours, including a lunch break.

The panel typically includes sessions on the following topics:

• Values: This interview seeks to learn more about what motivates you and how you handle feedback, conflict, and personal growth.

• Attitude: In this session, the candidate is placed with a small number of Discord staff members outside of the team to which they are applying. This allows the interviewers to get to know the candidate better, learn more about what they are passionate about, and see how they work with people from different roles.

• Coding: There are typically 1 to 2 coding sessions spaced between interviews.

• Architecture: There are typically 1 to 2 architecture sessions for mid- to senior-level roles to see the candidate work through the requirements of gathering and designing a solution at a high level.

• Specialty: For certain roles or more senior roles, Discord will add a specialty interview session.

From the full-day interview to the final decision, the company will move quickly and let you know the result within a few business days.
