What is VTO?

VTO refers to two different types of employee benefit programs: Volunteer Time Off (VTO) and Voluntary Time Off (VTO). These programs are quite different and should not be thought of as the same. Here is an explanation of each program:

• Volunteer Time Off (VTO)

  Volunteer time off refers to an employee benefit in which employers enable their workers to take paid time off in order to volunteer at a non-profit organization or another form of charitable organization. Many companies that utilize this program often partner with specific non-profits, while others choose to let their employees determine where they volunteer.

• Voluntary Time Off (VTO)

  VTO can also stand for Voluntary Time Off. And this is actually quite different than volunteer time off. Employers can offer VTO programs to their employees who are seeking to balance work with their family and/or personal demands. Most employers who offer this type of program do so with no negative effect on the employee's other benefits.
