This question is about accounting internship resumes.
A prospective accounting intern should put a strong objective summary, educational credentials, work experience, and accomplishments on a resume. The key to an effective internship resume comes from how well you are able to convey to the hiring manager that you would be a great candidate for the internship.
Each section has the potential to showcase to the hiring manager the unique skills you would bring to an internship.
These are the 5 main parts of an accounting internship resume:
A strong objective statement: Lead with your strongest asset. Include any work experience you may have or other achievements that may help you stand out as a candidate.
Remember, the goal of your objective statement is to summarize your value in clear, memorable terms so that employers can easily get a sense of what you have to offer. This is something you're going to want to customize per job application.
Educational experience: Include the degree you're currently working on (or recently graduated with). Include GPA and any honor or professional clubs you're affiliated with. Also, provide some examples of any accomplishments, such as a group project you may have led or classes you excelled at.
Work experience: When applying for internships, it is less important that your previous work experience is directly related to the field you are applying for and more important that you have work experience to show. Even a part-time job at a fast-food restaurant is useful for demonstrating that you do have a strong work ethic and the ability to work as part of a team.
Achievements / Certifications: This is especially the case if you can't include a work experience section. This is where you can talk about any awards or certifications you may have gotten or any projects you've done that you're proud of that demonstrate important skills that an employer wants to see (e.g., writer for the school newspaper, tutor)
Skills Section: the skills section is a great way to showcase what you are particularly skilled at. This can be especially helpful for the hiring manager since you may not have a lot of work experience.
The top skills to list on your resume for an accounting internship include:
Standards of accounting
Knowledge of regulatory standards.
General business knowledge
Software proficiency
Data analysis
Attention to detail
Effective communication.
Critical thinking
Problem-solving
Prioritizing
