What should I put on my resume for an investment banking internship?

Before you get started, we recommend that you read through a few investment banking internship job descriptions from different desirable companies and take note of the skills they tend to ask for and the key terms and phrases they use to describe the role. Throughout your resume, be sure to touch on those same key phrases and skills.

To get started, you will want to lead with a strong profile summary. The main objective of an investment banking internship resume should be to emphasize the training and skills you already possess in the area and your interest in learning more.

For example, "A motivated and skilled graduate holding a BA in Economics from Dartmouth College (GPA 3.9.) Worked as a summer analyst at Company XYZ on a $100M deal."

If you have any previous internship or relevant past work experience, then you're going to want to include that. For each position, include 3 to 6 bullet points. Begin each bullet point with an action verb and, whenever possible, focus on an accomplishment rather than just listing your responsibilities.

For example, "Assisted in preparing over 50 PowerPoint decks based on client materials."

The education section is another important section, especially if you have limited work experience. Here you have an opportunity to highlight your academic achievements and relevant coursework. Specifically, courses with heavy analytical and quantitative content.

In addition, you're going to want to add a skills section where you list your core skills. Optional sections to include are awards, conferences, and hobbies sections.
