What should I put on my resume for cyber security?

There are a few things to keep in mind before you get started. When deciding on what skills and qualifications to focus on, we recommend using the job description to help guide you. Also, narrow down some core skills and achievements that you can use when writing your profile summary.

The profile summary is the first introduction the hiring manager has of you, and it should convey who you are as a candidate and what your career goals are.

For example, "Persistent, detail-oriented cyber security professional with over five years experience with government security software contractor. Seeking to leverage top-secret security clearance to become the next cybersecurity engineer at Company X."

In the work experience section, you really get to flesh out what it means to be a cyber security professional. In this section, you're going to want to break down some of your greatest achievements and support them with hard numbers. For example, "Successfully secured and monitored over 50 websites with zero major attacks."

If you have any relevant certifications such as the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) or CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+), you should add separate sections for those and list what it is and when you earned it. This also is the case if you have security clearances. For example, "Counterintelligence (CI) Scope Polygraph (CSP) - 2017."
