What should I study to become a paramedic?
You should study anatomy and physiology, in addition to emergency life support skills, to become a paramedic. In addition to coursework, becoming a paramedic also requires work-related experience.
Before entering paramedic training, it is necessary for candidates to first complete and receive certification for the EMT-B training. This training requires 120 to 150 hours of training in both classroom and field experiences and takes approximately six months. After completion of EMT-B training, candidates can apply for certification.
To become a paramedic, candidates must have worked as an EMT for at least six months. In addition, aspiring paramedics must accrue approximately 1,800 hours of field training before seeking certification.
Training will focus on advanced pediatric life support and basic trauma life support skills. Candidates will need to spend time both studying for exams and working as many as 36 hours at a time during clinical rotations.
