By Zippia Team - Nov. 15, 2022

You should study web design and/or computer science to become a UI/UX designer. Although a degree is not required, you will have the edge over the competition by having one of these degrees.

Some of the key skills you will need are coding in program languages such as javascript, HTML, and CSS. Research, graphic design, and problem solving are also essential to this profession. Aesthetics are very important when considering UI/UX design.

Many ui/ux designers are self taught. However, a degree not only gives you an edge but gives you vital experience in computer languages. The degree allows you to become more familiar with the user interface (UI) and the user experience (UX) to determine your preference for work.

There are also certificate courses and designer boot camps available to gain knowledge in this area. Take it a step further, obtain a master's degree to encourage advancement opportunities. Companies such as SAP, Apple, and J.P. Morgan rely on UI/UX designers for their companies to be successful. Education and experience can get you to the highest levels possible.
