What should I write on my resume for driver jobs?

You should write on your resume for driver jobs a profile summary, experience, education, and skills section that highlight your training, experience, and safety record.

A resume for a driver's job needs to contain some important information, such as the type of driver you are and what license(s) you have. After that, you will want to showcase your unique skill set using real-world examples and quantifiable achievements.

Just below your contact information, you should include a concise, objective statement of between one and three sentences.

This statement should cover the type of driver you are (e.g., CDL-C OTR) and how long you've worked as a driver. Don't forget to touch on some of your top skills when describing yourself. For example, "Hard-working CDL-A truck driver with over five years truck driving experience. Proven skills in problem-solving and time management."

After this, we recommend listing your certification if you have a certified driver's license. Be sure to include the type of license and the year that it was issued. Other places to list your CDL are in your education section or under skills.

The experience section covers your previous work experience with three to six bullet points per job listing. While the bullet points are meant to reflect actual examples of your work experience, they should focus on your skills and achievements as a driver.

For example, "Drove an average 4,500 miles/week as certified CDL-A OTR Driver. Delivered to schedule 98% of the time with 99% customer satisfaction".

If you're applying to your first driver job, then focus on other related skills you may have used in other types of positions. For example, if you worked on a construction site, you could mention something like "Drove a dump truck in a high-volume quarry, performing physically demanding driving work. Displayed high-level coordination and judgment skills".

  • Commercial driver's license

  • Time management

  • Customer service

  • Public safety and security knowledge

  • Familiarity with road laws

  • Ability to keep detailed records
