What to major in to become a sonographer?

By Zippia Team - Jan. 8, 2023

You should major in diagnostic medical sonography to become a sonographer. You need an associate's degree in diagnostic medical sonography to be an ultrasound technician. However, if you want to be in sonography management one day, a bachelor's degree in diagnostic medical sonography is best.

Most ultrasound technicians only earn an associate's degree, but if you want to stand out from the pack and have a chance at career advancement, getting a bachelor's degree is the better option. You must have one of these two degrees to become a sonographer or an ultrasound technician.
