This question is about what a criminologist does.
Criminologists work in law enforcement agencies and universities. They learn how to use social patterns, psychology, and statistics to predict and prevent criminal behavior. Criminologists then use this knowledge to either help law enforcement agencies or to teach.
A criminologist may work with the FBI, the Secret Service, and other federal or state agencies. One way they assist these agencies is by creating suspect profiles. A criminologist can look at a crime scene and piece together certain attributes that they think the suspect has. This can be very helpful in finding suspects.
Some criminologists choose to pursue a career as a university professor. They can teach a variety of subjects such as juvenile justice, police administration and policy, or criminal ethnography. Those working in academia work alongside other professors of various subjects.
