Who do paramedics work with?

Paramedics work with emergency medical technicians (EMTs), emergency room (ER) doctors and nurses, and firefighters. Here is a closer look at the variety of medical and emergency professionals that paramedics work with:

• Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). Paramedics regularly work and collaborate with EMTs. These professionals are also responsible for responding to emergency medical situations, and so many times, they might work in conjunction with each other to stabilize or save the life of a person with a serious injury or critical condition.
• Emergency Room (ER) Doctors and Nurses. Paramedics also work with the doctors, nurses, and other staff of an emergency room. When paramedics rush people to an ER, they must update the medical professionals there on any medical information they have obtained relating to the person's vitals or health status.
• Firefighters. Firefighters need to respond to all kinds of emergencies regularly and this puts them into direct contact with paramedics. Some examples of when these two emergency professionals might work together include hazardous material spills, medical emergencies, car accidents, rescue operations, and of course, fires.
