Who gets paid more ICU or ER nurses?

By Zippia Team - Nov. 10, 2021

ER nurses get paid more than ICU nurses. This could be due to the fact that, while both work to save lives, Emergency Rooms Units tend to require a greater sense of urgency than Intensive Care Units.

ER nurses can stand to make slightly over $100,000 a year, on average. This is about $5,000 more than the average yearly salary for ICU nurses. It goes without saying that ER nurses also make more than non-specialized RNs for the same reason that ICU nurses do.

It should be noted that this greater salary for ER nurses is assuming a certain level of experience, as entry-level positions only start at about $74,000 a year.
