About the Department
The Department of Kinesiology and Public Health is a major academic unit within the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics offering a BS in Kinesiology and a BS in Public Health. There are approximately 650 undergraduate students, 15 full time faculty, 4 full time lecturers, 30 part time lecturers, and 5 support staff. The mission of the Kinesiology and Public Health (KPH) Department is to promote physical activity and health for all through excellence in teaching, research and service. Our faculty are actively engaged teacher scholars who participate in scholarship across a broad range of kinesiology and public health disciplines including obesity and chronic disease prevention & treatment, wearable sensors, physical behavior epidemiology, sport physiology, health literacy and physical activity, sport psychology, exercise metabolism and hydration, cycling biomechanics, the health status of immigrant enclaves, health communication, cancer prevention, health disparities, and maternal and child health. The Center for Health Research (CHR) is a University Research Center housed within the Department of Kinesiology and Public Health that includes several ongoing multi-million-dollar NIH-funded research grants. Projects include several long-term prospective human research studies involving hundreds of community participants, dozens of local community contracts and partners, and several national and international partners. External research grants currently fund approximately 10 staff positions including researchers, faculty investigators, research staff, a community liaison, database managers, phlebotomists, a technician, student research fellows, medical consultants and a translator. In addition, 20-30 undergraduate students conduct independent research in any given quarter. Pacific Wildlife Care is the only facility in San Luis Obispo County permitted to provide medical treatment and rehabilitation services to native wildlife and is a member of the Oiled Wildlife Care Network. PWC treats 2,500 - 3,000 injured and orphaned wildlife patients and responds to 10,000 to 15,000 wildlife-related phone calls annually.
Pacific Wildlife Care offers an open and inviting work environment where passion for native wildlife and connecting people with nature is shared by all. Under the direction of the Director of Animal Care (wildlife veterinarian) and the Center Director, this position is supported by a team of five other Rehabilitation Technicians, interns and 40 - 60 volunteers.
Purpose:
The Seasonal Wildlife Rehabilitation Technician is responsible for day-to-day animal care/rehabilitation. This position implements established protocols to provide the highest possible standard of ongoing care for wildlife patients.
Compensation:
This is a full time (40hrs/week), seasonal (April-September) position. This is an hourly, non-exempt position at $18.00/hour.

Ability to fulfill annual continuing education requirements and stay current in the field of Wildlife Rehabilitation
