Associate Attorney - Civil Litigation
Decruit
Attorney job in San Diego, CA
At a certain point in your litigation career, the question is no longer whether you can handle the work. It's whether the platform you're on actually supports you, recognizes your contribution, and gives you room to grow without burning you out.
This role is for civil litigators who want to deepen their practice in professional liability, general liability, and premises liability matters within a stable, well structured litigation environment.
The work is consistent, the expectations are clear, and the attorneys around you know what they're doing.
Why this role is worth considering
This opportunity sits within an established litigation group at a respected, mid to large sized firm. The team includes experienced, AV rated litigators and is known internally for strong mentorship and steady case flow.
Associates are expected to take responsibility for their matters, but they are not left to figure things out alone. The culture values preparation, judgment, and reliability over unnecessary intensity.
If you are looking for a role where you can practice law, sharpen your litigation skills, and still have a life outside the office, this environment is designed to support that.
The work itself
You will be responsible for managing active civil litigation matters, with an emphasis on professional liability, general liability, and premises liability. The day to day work typically involves:
Handling cases from early investigation through resolution
Drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery
Taking and defending depositions
Working directly with clients, carriers, and opposing counsel
Participating in mediations, hearings, and trial preparation
The cases require thoughtful advocacy and practical problem solving, not just volume for volume's sake.
How the team operates
This is a hybrid role based in San Diego. In-office time is used intentionally for collaboration, mentoring, and case strategy, while flexibility is respected.
Feedback is direct and timely. Associates are evaluated on the quality of their work, their responsiveness, and their ability to manage matters effectively. There is room to grow here, whether that means deeper subject matter expertise or broader responsibility over time.
Compensation and recognition
Base compensation range of $160,000 to $210,000, depending on experience and fit
Performance-based bonuses are a meaningful and expected part of total compensation
Bonus decisions reflect consistency, ownership, and contribution
Hybrid work structure
This is a place where doing solid work, managing cases well, and being dependable is recognized over time.
Who should look closely
Attorneys with civil litigation experience, particularly in professional liability, general liability, or premises liability
Attorneys who want responsibility without chaos
Attorneys who value mentorship and a well run practice
Attorneys looking for a long term platform rather than a short term fix
If you are considering a move and want a civil litigation role that feels deliberate, well supported, and professionally rewarding, this is worth a conversation.
