Full-time Description The Automation Controls Engineer is responsible for the development of industrial control systems from inception to completion. This position requires technical proficiency in many industrial controls platforms; as well as the ability to directly interact with the customer in design reviews, project updates, runoffs, and installations. Responsibilities: Electrical design of complete automation systems using AutoCAD Electrical software. Designs include power distribution, safety circuit, I/O controls, communications, and panel layout drawings. Calculating panel SCCR, power rating, and FLA for panel rating. Direct electrical assembly during equipment build. From-scratch, start-to-finish PLC, HMI, and robot programming for custom equipment, conveyor lines, and robot cells Configure, debug, and test equipment on shop floor in preparation of customer reviews. The Automation and Controls Engineer plays a key role in supporting plant operations and driving automation initiatives. This position focuses on electrical systems, control schemes, and automation projects, contributing to both current operations and future plant improvements. This role is one of two Electrical and Controls Engineer II positions on site and serves as a critical contributor to new projects while ensuring operational reliability. Key Responsibilities Maintain safety, product quality, and efficiency by troubleshooting and resolving process issues. Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to manufacturing processes and product quality. Support and enforce safety and environmental compliance. Participate actively in daily management and staff meetings. Diagnose and resolve complex technical problems. Document both legacy and new systems to ensure accuracy and continuity. Identify opportunities to increase efficiency through automation and propose modernization plans. Support plant IT infrastructure projects as well as HR/Safety systems (security access, cameras). Standardize and simplify parts and systems to improve operational consistency. Lead electrical/controls scope on large-scale projects (> $1M). Essential Roles & Responsibilities: Provide technical expertise across the program acquisition life cycle in quality, mission assurance and manufacturing to the government for assigned MDA programs Implement MDA quality and mission assurance requirements by providing subject matter expertise for the identification, evaluation and mitigation of risks associated with various aspects of the design, development, manufacturing, fielding and operation of MDA systems The QS governing document to be implemented is the MDA Assurance Provisions (MAP). This document is a standardized set of 14 QSMA provisions, requirements, and processes that apply to mission and safety critical items. The MAP gives MDA the methodology to measure, confirm, and validate mission success through collection and analysis of metrics, risk assessment, technical evaluations, independent assessment, reviews, conducting tests, and promoting continuous process improvement to reduce cost, improve productivity, and institute QSMA. Assist with review and assessment of hardware and software compliance with quality and related mission assurance requirements, including support of failure investigations, failure review boards, evaluations, audits, and assessments. Activities include determining root cause of failures of MDA hardware. Provide technical and data management expertise for quality and mission assurance boards, working groups, and reviews to include (but not limited to) technical and mission reviews, pedigree reviews, first article inspections, and risk working groups. Prepare draft documents, briefs, presentations, and actions items responses, which may include information papers. Provide weekly status reports on activities and issues of concern.
