Established in 1926 in the town of North Andover, Brooks School provides a co-educational, college preparatory program for 380 students on a 270-acre campus overlooking Lake Cochichewick.
The school opened on September 29, 1927, with fourteen boys in the first and second forms (seventh and eighth grades), two masters, a headmaster and headmistress, and one dormitory.
In 1931 the desire for a school shield first manifested itself, and Mr.
The first class graduated in 1932.
It was reopened in 1953 as an elementary and junior high school due to a substantial increase in the school age population.
The building was closed permanently as a school in 1963 but was used as office space by the town for several years.
The School's first headmaster, Frank D. Ashburn (a graduate of Groton School, Yale University and Columbia Law School), was appointed at the age of 25 and served for 46 years until his retirement in 1973.
